In this blog, you will dive into each of our staff members skincare routines, best–kept aesthetic secrets, and their favorite products and treatments. You’ll want to read til the end on this one… and you might even be inspired to try something new!
1. What’s the one skincare step you never skip?
Christina -Washing my face
Elizabeth– Cleaning my face
Cecilia-SPF
Maddie-Washing my face before bed!!
2. What product has made the biggest difference in your skin?
Christina– SkinMedica TNS and Alastin Restorative Skin Complex – I started to see real skin transformation when I incorporated TNS growth factors. The overall health of my skin improved. The Alastin Restorative Skin is helping to maintain my collagen and elastin and it is supporting the treatments I do in the office to prolong their longevity.
Elizabeth– Retinol
Cecilia– Double cleansing has helped my skin because I am acne prone. It is super important to double cleanse at night to remove dirt, oil, and makeup.
Maddie– TNS by SkinMedica- this does it all for me. I use it AM and Pm- and even if I skip anything else in my routine, I will never skip this!!
3. What’s your go-to product for a skin emergency (breakout, dryness, irritation, etc.)?
Christina– HA5 – When I am dry, my skin is more hydrated. If I have pigment issues, my overall glow improves.. If I have a breakout or dryness, it will help restore my skin barrier… it does it all!
Elizabeth– I am loving the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex – there are so many active ingredients that help a combination of issues- like dryness or post procedure. You can also use it morning and night. It truly is good for all skin types! It is a one stop shop product!
Cecilia– HA5 by Skinmedica. It is good for all skin types, including acne-prone and aging skin. It is amazing when I feel dry. And your body naturally produces this too, so the topical component is a nice addition to any routine.
Maddie-If I get a breakout, I can’t live without my SkinMedica Even and Correct pads or the SkinMedica Retinol. Both are gentle and help heal up my skin in no time. I also love my Cosmedix Humidify Deep Moisturizer when I super dry, and it works wonders!
Treatment Favorites
4.What’s your all-time favorite in-office treatment—and why?
Christina– Sculptra!!! It has helped maintain the structural support of my face as well as the youthfulness and strength of my skin so that I can be more of a minimalist when it comes to injectibles, long term.
Elizabeth– Dysport! I cannot live without it!
Cecilia– The Diamond Glow Facial. It is a three-in-one advanced facial, with elements of infusion, extraction and exfoliation. I love adding a light peel or dermaplane for an extra boost. It is easy, takes about an hour, and there is no downtime, but you will leave the office feeling dewy and glowing!
Maddie– PDGF for under my eyes has been a game changer. And I can’t forget about the Bio RePeel. I love how it makes my skin look and feel!
5. What’s the last treatment you had, and why?
Christina– I had the Bio Repeel last week. I am such a fan! I tell all my patients they need them. It has helped the dullness in my skin and summer freckling. AND it is stimulating collagen! It’s like a clean slate for the face after getting through the sunny summer months!
Elizabeth– I had lip and chin filler to achieve a more balanced lower face…and it went amazing…thank you Christina. 🙂 Little things that bothered me are resolved now!
Cecilia– I had the tired eye treatment with PDGF about a month ago…I loved it! Elizabeth did the treatment on me, and it was painless. I already see results and can’t wait to continue to see improvement in my under eye hollowness. We are going to do another treatment in a few weeks for continued improvement.
Maddie -Cecilia did the Bio Repeel on me yesterday! I could feel that tingle within a few minutes, which I just love because I know the magic is happening! I am looking forward to seeing my summer brown spots fade. Today, I am already seeing mild peeling!
6. If you could get one treatment every month, what would it be?
Christina– NAD IV’s… I have been doing this monthly for nine months, and I have to say it has been a game changer. I feel like I sleep better, I’m less anxious, and I am better able to manage the day to day. Also my recovery time from workouts is much quicker!!
Elizabeth– A facial and lash lift with Cecilia… is that one treatment? HA! It is if you make the appointment at the same time…haha!
Cecilia – I would give myself a Dermaplane and mini facial, and I will tell you I try very hard to stick to that once a month rule!! I want to keep my skin looking dewy and healthy. Exfoliating the skin is such a simple and easy way to take care of your face, and it makes me feel good and look good. Also, my products penetrate into the skin more easily and makeup goes on more effortlessly!
Maddie– A signature facial to maintain nice and clear skin!
Product Picks
7. What’s your holy grail product for anti-aging?
Christina– Alastin Restorative Skin Complex.
Elizabeth– Alastin Restorative Skin Complex and the Alastin tinted SPF (Hydratint) is amazing!
Cecilia– I would say the Alastin Restorative Complex because it does so much! It has Tri-Hex technology that is good for hydration and anti-aging. Niacinimide helps with brightening and oil reduction. It’s truly such a good product for people who want to keep a simple routine!
Maddie– Clinical Skin Vitamin C and the SkinMedica Retinol. I seriously can’t go a day without it. Also, one other product not to be forgotten… Everyone should be using a retinol, no questions asked!
8. What professional-grade product do you wish more people knew about?
Christina– PDGF- it is such a powerful and regenerative product that can treat a difficult area in a very natural way.
Elizabeth– Retinol- I always try to educate my patients on what retinol is and all the benefits it has for your skin when you use it regularly. There are easy ways to incorporate it into your daily routine, without having to worry about throwing your skin barrier off completely.
Cecilia– Gosh there are so many!! I think educating my clients on the value of professional grade products… there isn’t just one!!
Maddie– Alastin Restorative Skin- It is that five in one powerhouse. It does it all and I am a busy person, so I like something that I know has proven effective ingredients, and I can throw on in 20 seconds.
Professional Perspective
9. What’s a common skincare myth or mistake you want clients to stop believing?
Christina– Trusting influencers to guide their skincare product choices. These people are paid to promote products with no science-backed data as to their efficacy. These are cosmeceuticals versus pharmaceuticals, so they are not regulated by the FDA. That means there is ZERO evidence to support what the product is touting.
Elizabeth– It takes a lotttt of filler to look overdone. Patients are very scared to even try it, and a lot of ‘naturally pretty’ people have had filler. One syringe of filler is the size of a blueberry and that is SOOOO small!
Cecilia– When it comes to acne, people think moisturizer is going to make them oily and produce more acne. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. Dry skin actually produces more oil, which results in more acne. And the dermaplaning myth! If we dermaplane you, your hair will not grow back darker and thicker!!!
Maddie– Vaseline and Aquaphor on the face- Why? This can’t be your only step in your nighttime routine!
10. How has working in medical aesthetics changed your own skincare habits?
Christina– I really do my research before looping new products or treatments into my routine. When I was younger, I easily hopped on trends or fell for the latest advertisement. Not anymore!
Elizabeth– Oh my gosh.. Ha. It’s been a 180 degree shift. Before getting into this industry, I hardly had a skincare routine. Now, I realize the importance of active ingredients in my skincare routine, aka Vitamin C, retinol, and an SPF. Over the counter products are not the same as what you buy in a medical office. You can change your skin with just a few key ingredients and products!
Cecilia-I think it is important to learn at-home care. Double cleansing is a huge one!! I learned the importance of this, along with using an SPF. Learning how important it is not to touch your face, and to make sure you have clean hands when you wash your face. These are small things, but super easy things, that make a huge difference in your skin health over time!
Maddie– Before working at DP, I bought my skincare on Amazon and never used anything that was medical grade. Now I see a brighter complexion, my skin is smoother, tighter and clearer, using medical grade products.
11. Are there any new technologies or ingredients you’re excited about?
Christina– Ultrasound technology!! With my surgical background, I used to be able to see everything in plain sight. I could see a patient’s anatomy under the skin. In this industry, you are working outside the skin’s surface. With ultrasound, I can look ‘under the hood’ and actually see what is under the skin and have a certain and clear marker of a patient’s anatomy while doing a procedure. It is an absolute game changer, not only for better aesthetic outcomes, but for a patient’s safety, as well.
Elizabeth– PDGF!!! I love it because it is a more natural approach to healing your skin over other alternatives. Growth factors are already in our cells, so we are simply rebuilding what the skin has lost over the course of the aging process.
Cecilia– I just love the Diamond Glow, and I love introducing it to my patients. The Alastin A-luminate is the product I want everyone to know about!! Pigmentation is a huge issue my clients deal with and this product is a game changer!!
Maddie– I am always excited for new treatments or devices that we bring into DP. The technology is always advancing and it’s fun for our office to learn and share these additions in the office with our patients.
12. What advice would you give someone starting to build a skincare routine or an aesthetic regimen?
Christina– Start with a few high quality medical grade products, including a retinol and a mineral based sunscreen. 70% of how our skin ages is what we are exposed to in our environment. So being able to control some of that can go a long way in how we age.
Elizabeth– Don’t be overwhelmed! We can fit your skincare and treatments into your lifestyle and budget.
Cecilia– Get to know the basics of skin care!! It doesn’t have to be overwhelming! We can come up with an easy plan, we can start slow, and it doesn’t have to be extravagant!! Let’s start with the basics!
Maddie– Just start with a gentle face cleanser and a moisturizer. If you don’t have a big budget for all the other things, start small. And don’t forget an SPF!
Until next time,
XO,
Christina…. Always here to help you enhance your inner radiance
